Boys Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Soccer · Griffin Soccer – Joy

If you were having a bad day and didn’t come to watch some good ole’ GP Soccer, then you missed an opportunity to have your spirits lifted!

GP Boys and Girls Soccer were phenomenal tonight!

Our Ladies started it off with a dominating 4-1 victory over Sedona Red Rock. The ball movement, player activity, energy, and excitement of the game was consistent throughout. The night started with senior recognition. GP honored Nate Lowery (manager), Lindsay Knott (captain), Audrey Beermann, Kiley Selman, Izzy Squires, Eliza Trimble (captain), and Katrina Lee.

After some tears and some laughter the ladies turned on their game faces and handled their opponent for a dominating victory! We say congratulations and thank you for all of your hard work this season.

The boys were not to be outshined though. The boys team showed up early tonight, coaches included, to cross support their GP Lady Griffins. The stands were filled with fans, students, family, and GP Boys Soccer. The comradery between the two programs is unique and from the coaches down there is love and care for the hard work they each put in to every day.

The gentlemen Griffins (Mr. Wieb’s nickname for them) came out slightly slow and were down 2-0 at half. But, soccer is a long game and after a halftime break and pep talk, the Griffins stormed back to score two goals in the second half sending the game to extra time.

After neither team scored in the first 10 minute overtime period, Jason Butterworth attacked down field causing the defense to foul him in the penalty box. This mistake by the opponent led to Aidan Daugard scoring his 3rd goal of the game and leading GP to an impressive come from behind 3-2!! Way to go Griffins and congratulations on a hard fought victory.
